How do you match old roofing shingles with new ones?

Our roof was replaced about 10 years ago. Now we want to have a skylight taken out (it leaks) but the company who did our roof back then isn't around anymore. The new guy we've hired says he can't find shingles that match, that even come close. How can we find matching shingles?
