Roofing – what type of roofing (of shingles) is best for the following weather conditions?
Location is Orillia, Ontario, Canada, where it is below zero during the winter with a lot of snow. The current shingles are old and should be replaced. Any tips on how to get the best quote from a roofing contractor and what to expect it to include would be highly appreciated as well. Also, regarding eaves trough – the property does not have eaves troughs today. Is it true it is actually not recommended to install/have them in such a place due to the fact that they do not last long (usually only 2 years) due to the snow/ice mix on the roof putting pressure on them/on the eaves troughs? it's an advice i received but wanted to consult with other people with knowledge in the field many properties around it do not have eaves troughs as well.
Lastly, in answering the questions please consider the fact that it is an investment property (triplex) and a very old building. THANKS.
