Shed Roof Plans – What Are Your Roofing Options?
Building your own shed probably seems like an easy enough task. You’ve probably been building along thinking, “I don’t know why everybody thinks this is hard!” You probably figured that people who insisted that having a good set of plans was a good idea were overreacting. You probably thought this right up until it came time to construct and install your shed’s roof. That is probably when you changed your mind and decided that some shed roof plans would probably be a good idea.
Sure you could simply slap on a flat roof but over time, this type of roof will bend and bow. Elemental damage can saturate a flat wooden roof and before long it will simply crack right down the middle and create a real disaster.
A gabled roof is also popular. These are the types of roofs that look like somebody cut the bottom off of a triangle and put the pointy part on top of the shed. Putting a roof like this together and installing it takes some construction experience but it can be done. The only problem is that the runoff from rainstorms and dew collection can do damage to your yard. You might accidentally end up with a shed that sits in the middle of a marsh unless of course, you install gutters on your shed.
The gambrel roof is the most popular type for out buildings. Gambrel’s can add quite a bit of storage space to your shed. These are the roofs that are most commonly found on barns and colonial styled cottages. These roofs absorb most runoff before it hits the ground and are built to withstand all sorts of other environmental elements that would “do in” other types of roofs.
Whatever type and design you choose to install on your shed, make sure you have a good set of shed roof plans to work from!
